Susan became one of the first women in this region to own a full-service benefits brokerage when she launched Shargel & Co. in 1989.
She had already built a substantial client base during her 9 years with Equitable Life, then one of the largest health insurers in the country. She worked with both small local businesses and large national accounts.
Susan was determined that Shargel & Co. would deliver expert advice and exceptional personal service to a growing group of business and non profit clients. She takes great pride in the long term relationships she has built with clients and the assistance Shargel provides to new entrepreneurs.
Susan participates in local business, insurance and civic organizations including the SF Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Women Business Owners, and the Women Presidents' Organization. |

Susan has been advocating for health reform since the 1980’s. She credits the passage of small business health reform in the early 90’s with contributing to California’s tremendous economic growth. Susan chaired NAWBO’S (National Association of Women Business Owner’s) national health reform task force. She participated in the Governor’s Small Business and Entrepeneurship Health Reform Task Force and represented WIPP (Women Impacting Public Policy) at a July meeting with the White House Director of Health Reform.
Susan speaks on health insurance issues at local and national business conferences.

| Cecilia Paul, Account Manager |
Cecilia Paul has worked in the health insurance field for 25 years. She has managed large group accounts for health plans including Health Net, PacifiCare and Lifeguard, and labor union accounts for a third party administrator. She joined the Shargel team in 2004.
At Shargel, Cecilia has become the trusted advisor for our small and mid size business and not-for-profit clients. They look to her for advice in structuring their benefits plans, finding the most reasonably priced policies and conducting employee meetings, in English and/or Spanish. She is always available to resolve sticky employee/insurance issues.
Cecilia holds a California life and health insurance license. She is active with the Society of Human Resource Professionals and the Golden Gate Underwriters Association. |

| Jennifer UHL, CFP - Long Term Care Specialist |
Jennifer joined the Shargel & Co. team as an independent consultant in 2008 to help us meet the growing demand for Long-Term Care Insurance. A Certified Financial Planner and Member of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, Jennifer brings 22 years of experience with some of the leading companies in the industry including John Hancock, Genworth and Metropolitan Life.
For Jennifer, long-term care is a very personal issue. She has seen firsthand the hardship that families who do not have suitable coverage endure when a loved one suddenly requires long-term care. The experience made a deep impression on her, and she advises each of her clients that “the lifestyle and dignity that you will enjoy tomorrow, begins with the quality of planning you do today.”
Jennifer has the distinction of being the first agent to write a Long-Term Care Partnership Policy with the State of California. She has also taught classes on Long-Term Care. Prior to entering the insurance business, she was a Financial Planner with American Express Financial Advisors. |
